Mayors are at the leading edge of the most important social and economic issues of our times: coordinating response to COVID-19 in the country's hardest hit places; engaging with a new movement for racial justice which is as impassioned as any we've seen in a generation; and balancing budgets that demand painful choices.
Considering the stakes, it's hard not to feel encouraged by the mayors of several of America's most important cities: LaToya Cantrell of New Orleans, La.; Melvin Carter of St. Paul, Minn.; Stephen Benjamin of Columbia, S.C.; and Keisha Lance Bottoms of Atlanta, Ga. This group came together this week under the banner of the Black Economic Alliancefor a discussion that spanned issues of race and economic opportunity across America. It's an inspiring conversation that we highly recommend.
